Bayern Munich: Vincent Kompany praises Eric Dier's 'character'

Eric Dier made just his second Bundesliga start of the season for Bayern Munich as Harry Kane’s penalty saw out a 1-0 win against Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Topspiel.

Called upon in the absence of Dayot Upamecano, who was suspended, Dier partnered Kim Min-jae in central defence and with an expiring contract at the end of the season, the Rekordmeister have a decision to make. With Vincent Kompany’s comments in his press conference, the Belgian values the experience that Dier brings to the squad.

“Eric is a player with a lot of experience who knows what to do in these moments,” said Kompany. “Players like Eric have character and always prioritise the team.”

Dier joined Bayern Munich on loan from Tottenham in January 2024 but that move was soon a permanent one, on a one-year contract. The 30-year-old has played 30 games across all competitions, under Thomas Tuchel and Kompany, and is valued by the Bayern bosses.

While playing time is sparse, Bayern Munich sporting director Christoph Freund hinted that the club ‘still need him’ and that there’s certainly a future at the club for Dier.
