One of the biggest derby games in the world takes place tonight as Galatasaray and Fenerbahce renew their intense rivalry. Turkish football has a fanatical following and the two biggest clubs in the Süper Lig face off in Istanbul in a pivotal game in the title race. With 13 fixtures remaining for both sides, Galatasaray hold a six point lead over their rivals and defeat for Fenerbahce would realistically prove fatal for their title hopes.
José Mourinho’s men, however, are currently on a 15-match unbeaten record in all competitions and qualified for the last 16 of the Europa League on Thursday, while Galatasaray were knocked out by AZ Alkmaar. The stakes couldn’t be higher ahead of the Istanbul showdown in arguably the most passionate and fiercely contested derby in Europe. The game could become the most valuable game in Super Lig history based on Transfermarkt’s famed market values but which players would make a combined XI based on our data?
Galatasaray and Fenerbahce combined XI
A combined XI from Galatasaray and Fenerbahce would have a total market value of €244m. Victor Osimhen, on-loan from Napoli, is comfortably the most valuable player in Türkiye at €75m - €50m than the second highest player, Gabriel Sara. While Galatasaray have the two most valuable players in the Super Lig, Fenerbahce have more players in the combined XI with seven.
As the graphic above illustrates, Osimhen would be joined by Allan Saint-Maximin and Barış Alper Yılmaz in the front three. Fenerbahce duo Sofyan Amrabat and Sebastian Szymański take two of the midfield slots alongside the aforementioned Sara. The back four comprises of three Fenerbahce defenders and Galatasaray star Davinson Sánchez - the most valuable defender at €19m - with Dominik Livaković in goals.
