Mallorca players celebrate after their penalty shootout win over Real Sociedad

Mallorca midfielder Sergi Darder scored the decisive spot-kick in a shootout against Real Sociedad to book his side's place in the Copa del Rey final.

After a goalless first leg, Sociedad's Mikel Oyarzabal cancelled out Giovanni Gonzalez's opener to force extra time.

Oyarzabal was the only player to miss in the shootout and Darder held his nerve to send Mallorca through.

It is the first time Mallorca have reached the final since they won the tournament in 2003.

They will face either Athletic Bilbao or Atletico Madrid at Estadio La Cartuja in Seville on 6 April.

Athletic Bilbao hold a 1-0 lead over Diego Simeone's side heading into Thursday's second leg.

Mallorca's victory on Tuesday could boost morale for a side that sit 16th in La Liga and are trying to distance themselves from the relegation zone.

Meanwhile, Real Sociedad will need to regroup for next week's Champions League last-16 meeting with Paris St-Germain, with the French champions leading 2-0 from the first leg.
